Wednesday, May 8th: Bed, Bath and beyond!

Hello loves! Our second full day in England was filled with so many amazing adventures. We started off the morning with a lovely breakfast at Regent's College, and then left at 9:00 to go to Bath! We caught a tube from Baker Street to Paddington Station, and from Paddington, we took a train to Bath.

Once we got to Bath, we rode a hop on/ hop off bus around the town. We saw many of the beautiful sights that Bath has to offer.   he bus tour gave us a wonderful overview of the city of Bath, and after the bus ride, we got to see one of the biggest attractions in Bath. The Roman Baths were built in 836 BC, after rome took over England. The Romans built the baths on natural hot springs, and they did so  for several reasons. First, the Romans believed in the natural healing properties of the iron rich water. Also, the Romans wanted to build a public meeting ground that  reflected the Roman architecture and way of life. The Baths were only available to the wealthy, and they served as a place to share the affluent life style. The exhibit at the Baths showed the melding of Roman and English culture, and it is this culture melding that has shaped Bath into the city it is today.

After seeing the Roman baths, the class headed to a pub to catch a quick lunch. Students got to chose between the British classic fish and chips, a traditional burger or salad. Lunch was great, as it gave us the energy to continue on with the rest of our day.

After lunch, the class went to The Museum of Costume. This interactive museum took its viewers through over 200 years of women's fashion. We got to see how fashion changed with culture, and how with each passing decade, woman's clothing became more and more modern. Part of the museum included a dress up room, where the class was able to try on victorian corsets, petti cotes and hoop skirts!

After the museum, the class was given a chance to explore Bath for a bit on our own. Because Bath was a place of affluence, there are a plethora of shops and sights to see. Many students explored the cafes, stores and museums in the hour or so we had.

After the group meet up again, it was time to get on the train back home. After catching a train from Bath to Paddington and the tube from Paddington to Baker Street, we walked back to the college. Today was a fantastic day for exploring Bath, and the information we learned about English culture was fantastic. The trip to Bath was a wonderful way to spend the day, and the class will be able to draw from what we learned today and use these lesons in the days to come.
